Prayer for Discernment

Devotional Reflection - Tuesday (10/16/25)

Today's readings from the Bible in a Year website are:

One of my favorite verses is in today's reading.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (NASB version)

That gives me so much comfort whenever I read it.

Jeremiah was writing a letter to the exiles who were in Babylon at the time and giving them hope, encouraging them to go about life, multiply, and work for peace and prosperity. Then he said to not be fooled by people who would tell lies in God's name. After 70 years, God would bring them home out of exile.

I've definitely fallen for lies and not had perfect discernment so this is a really powerful reminder.

Lord God, Thank You for having a plan for me of prosperity, to give me a future and a hope. Please give me wisdom each day and give me discernment so that I might not be fooled into believing lies or fool myself into straying from you. Thank You for the comfort you give with Your Word and for allowing me to hear You speak to my heart. Thank You for your continued provision and blessings for my life and for being here to carry my burdens when I suffer. Please continue to help my family and help my son grow to know You and love You. I ask this in Your Son Jesus' Name, Amen.
